Piotr Artomiusz

Descent

Burghers; a son of Łukasz Krzesichleb – a lay judge and member of a municipal council.

Education

He finished parochial school in Grodzisk and went to work as a home teacher of Jan Ostroróg and Mikołaj Ostroróg in 1573. In 1577, he enrolled at the university in Wittenberg, and came to Warsaw in 1578 where he was ordained as a Lutheran preacher.

Work

He had close ties with Toruń. From 1586, a preacher and pastor at St. George’s Church and St. Mary’s Church. The author of religious writings. The most prominent of his works was the so-called Toruń hymnbook – a collection of religious songs. A Latin-German-Polish dictionary (Nomenclator) co-written by him was published in multiple editions.
