He was born into a Catholic family as František Lorenc to Teresa and Fraciszek (a miller).
Education
He attended schools in Trojovice, Zbýšov and Čáslav. During his school leaving exam taken in Kolín he showed exceptional talent for languages.
Work
At 18, he published a study book on Esperanto for Czech speakers. After the school leaving exam, he moved to Prague and became a journalist. His participation in the demonstrations of 1893 led to him being convicted to 3 years of military service. Wanting to avoid punishment, he fled to Brazil, accompanied by a group of craftsmen. He took an interest in philosophy, medicine and linguistics, among other disciplines. According to various sources, he spoke from 70 to 100 languages, wrote more than 80 books, including a Portuguese study book for Polish speakers and a Portuguese-Polish dictionary.
